I already have a website, how easy is it to change it?

if you already have a website. That’s great. This means we can build your new website whilst your other website is still live. Once we are ready to go live and you are happy with the new site we can then swap the old site for the new one. It can take as little as 10 minutes for the new website to be visible. This means you’ll barely even notice a dip in your traffic numbers.

Will you buy stock images for me?

Yes. We we assist with the purchasing of the images for your website. We normally use stock image websites such as Depositphotos, Shutterstock and 123rf to buy professional images so that you don’t have to pay a photographer.

Who hosts the website?

If we build your website, we will generally manage the hosting for you so you don’t need to do anything. We use the same hosting company for our own website and for ALL our clients. Each website is managed individually to avoid any security issues. Every website we build has unlimited bandwidth, 20GB of disk space, 2GB Ram and 99.9% uptime.

I don’t want to use WordPress can I choose something else?

No. We only use WordPress to build websites. We have used other platforms in the past but not anymore. WordPress is a platform that’s easily accessible for our clients to update themselves, it’s search engine friendly and it’s easy to integrate with third party companies. Kindly refer to the article on why we only use WordPress to build websites. Feel free to take a look to find out more.

What if I don't like the website?

You’re in luck. We offer a risk-free guarantee. Before we build your new website, we’ll design a mockup of your homepage. We’ll design a layout in Photoshop first, that way you’ll get to see our initial designs within approximately ten days. This is your opportunity to give us feedback and if you really don’t like it, you don’t have to move forward. Best part is, this won’t cost you anything.

Can I make the final payment when the site is ready to go live?

No. In the past we have found that projects can take a lot longer than expected to complete. We might be waiting for information from you and this can delay the process. Sometimes these delays can take months. This is why we always invoice 30 days after the original payment. At this point we’ll be well on our way with your new website and you’ll be able to see the progress.

1. General questions

1.1. How much does a new website cost?

There’s not one single answer to this question. A website design is quoted based on the needs of each individual project. Every website is unique and requires different components; we design and develop custom websites specifically for your small business. We’ll ask a lot of questions, assess your needs, and give you a quote based on that assessment. Most of our sites run in the R15,000 range, but can be more or less depending on needs.

1.2. How long will it take to get a new website?

On average, we shoot for a six to eight week turnaround, but the pace of any project is set by each client. How much input you can provide during the initial stages, your availability with feedback, how soon the content is ready – all this affects the speed of completion. The functionality needs may also play a role – more complex sites will take more time to develop.

1.3. Do you only create WordPress websites?

Yes. WordPress is a great content management system that now powers more than 30% of the web. Its huge market share is due to it’s flexibility and ease of use. Don’t worry, we’ll teach you how to manage it and help you along the way..

1.4. Will I be able to update the site myself when it’s finished?

Yes! We love it when our clients take control of their website and learn to manage it on their own. We’ll provide you with a set of comprehensive video tutorials to help you learn your way around, as well provide you with a training session to help get you on your way. (Note: We love to answer your questions!)

1.5. Will you maintain my site for me?

We can! We provide on-going support for many of our clients.

1.6. Will my website be mobile-friendly?

Absolutely! Having a mobile-friendly website is more important than ever! We work hard to ensure your website looks great on a variety of devices.

1.7. When do I pay?

For most projects, equal payments are made at the start, midway, and the end of the project, but we can work with you to set up a schedule that meets your needs. We understand that this is a big investment and want to help you budget for the expense in whatever way possible.

We accept checks, PayPal, and all major credit cards.

1.8. How much input do I have in the process?

A lot! Your input and feedback is crucial to this process. We’ll start with a lot of questions about your needs, your likes, your wants and work with you to develop just the right look and functionality.

1.9. Who writes the content for the site?

Usually that is you. You are the expert on your business, so it’s usually best if it comes from you. If you need help, we can recommend copywriters who can help clean up or write original content for you at an additional cost.

1.10. Where should my website be hosted?

2. Technical questions

1.1. What does responsive mean??

A responsive website is a website that adapts to the device it is being viewed on. For example, if you view a site on a laptop and then view the site on a mobile, you should have equally good experiences of that website but not the same experience. On the mobile, the website may have a slightly different design and content may have moved to make it easier to navigate and view utilising the controls available on a mobile device.

A mobile-friendly website will give you the same user experience when you view it on a mobile device as well as a large screen.  In contrast to the responsive website, there will not be a specific design for mobile usage, but the whole site will be designed and built in such a way that all features are available and equally usable on all size device.

1.2. What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. It is a way of structuring your site and its content to ensure that you have the best chance of your website being returned in a good position when someone does a Google search for terms relevant to your business.

SEO over the years has grown and changed and become an industry in its own right.  There are many companies whose sole purpose are to boost your placement on google through various techniques and campaigns.

When building a site we will always implement best practices for SEO. For more advanced SEO advice or paid campaign we will always refer you onto our trusted, specialist partners.

1.3. What is SSL?

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer and is a security protocol to enable you to access a website securely.  When you access a site which has SSL you will notice that the web address begins https:// rather than http:// (note the additional “s”). This means your interaction with that website is encrypted and information you enter can’t be stolen by hackers.

Google sees websites which use https:// as safe and the use of https may boost the ranking or your website over a non secure website. As of January 2017, Google has started differentiating between those websites that are secure and those that aren’t secure in their Chrome browser. You may see either the word “secure” or an “I” at the start of the web address.  Users will have more confidence in clicking on your site if it is secure.

1.4. What is UX?

UX is short for user experience.

When designing a website it is very important to consider the user’s experience on the website.

An enjoyable user experience will ensure that user potentially returns, buys or recommends the website.

A bad user experience means it’s highly unlikely that the user will progress further on a website and leave very quickly.

When designing a website, we make sure we understand the needs of your website users before creating the design and considering the look, the layout, the content, the functionality, the interaction and how it all works together.

What is accessibility?

Well designed websites allow everyone to enjoy their content. There are various techniques and guidelines which help make website content accessible.

We’ve listed some of the guidelines here:

  • Ensuring images are described with alternative text, known as “alt” text
  • Ensuring all website functionality can be accessed via the keyboard only
  • Providing descriptive information for links
  • Ensuring adequate contrast between background and text
  • Providing captions and transcripts for video
  • Providing transcripts for podcasts

1.5. What is web hosting?

Web hosting is the provision of space on a web server to store your website. The web hosting company will also provide connectivity to the server so your website can be accessed by people using the public internet.  You usually “rent” this space for a monthly fee (sometimes discounted if you pay annually).

What is a dormain name?

A domain name is the easy to read name of your website.

When choosing a domain name it’s important to make it relatable to your business. Keeping short and pronounceable makes it easy to remember accurately. You should also use an appropriate domain name extension i.e. .co.uk, .net. .com etc
